How is a transformer station built?

How do steel and concrete become a fully equipped transformer station? Our new 180° virtual factory tour offers a glimpse behind the scenes at our plant in Arnstadt, SCHEIDT’s largest site.
From reinforcement and concrete production through to electrical installations, loading and assembly: the camera is right in the thick of it, and you can choose your own viewpoint as the video plays.

The best thing is to try it out for yourself:
The 180° tour also works on your smartphone without a VR headset. Simply scan the QR code and choose where to look.

How is a transformer station built?

It all starts with the reinforcement. Steel forms the future skeleton of the concrete structure. A plotter transfers dimensions and positions directly onto the formwork table before the reinforcement and embedded parts are positioned in accordance with the plans.
The concrete is then poured in, levelled and compacted. Once it has set and the formwork has been removed, the station’s shell is revealed. But that is only part of the job.

From the concrete structure to the finished transformer station
Electrical installation work involves the coordination of various trades. Raised floors, switchgear, transformers, secondary systems and other components are installed. Electrical connections are made, tested and documented. Doors, ventilation units and the roof complete the station.
SCHEIDT designs and manufactures reinforced concrete transformer stations. In most projects, the scope of work also includes the electrical installation, supplemented by on-site assembly where required.
Dimensions, technical specifications and design are tailored to the requirements of each individual project.

From production to the point of use
The factory tour does not end at the factory gate. The completed transformer station is loaded onto a lorry and transported to its destination. Once there, particularly where access is restricted, meticulous preparation and close coordination between the transport team, the crane operators and the installation team are essential.
SCHEIDT supports projects every step of the way, from consultancy and planning through to manufacturing, electrical installation and on-site assembly.

Why a 180° factory tour?

There are some aspects that you can only truly understand when you’re right in the thick of it. That is exactly what the 180° shot makes possible: with the virtual factory tour Everyone decides for themselves where to look.
On a smartphone, you can change the perspective by moving the device; on a desktop, you can do so directly within the video. With compatible VR headsets, the virtual tour becomes even more immersive.

A day of filming in the middle of production

Filming at the Arnstadt plant began early in the morning and took place whilst production was in full swing. This required additional coordination: access routes had to be kept clear and work processes had to be coordinated with the filming.
The fact that we are nevertheless able to show our day-to-day production work so vividly is largely down to the flexibility and support of our colleagues. They adapted their workflows, made space for the camera and patiently supported us throughout the day’s filming.
A conscious decision was made to avoid any staging. There are no actors or actresses in front of the camera; instead, it features the people who work in our wards every day.
Take a look for yourself and see how a transformer station is built from steel, concrete and engineering.
